Many thoughtful questions are asked about God, Jesus, the meaning of life, the bible, etc. They deserve thoughtful answers.
Q: Why would a good God allow evil to exist?

A: Free will. But it is more than that. God granted humans and angels free will. Humans and angels can chose to serve God (good) or not (evil). The product of evil actions produces evil in the world. So essentially evil exists because of the abuse of free will. God created free will in part because God wants you to freely chose Him, just as each human wants to know the love of being freely chosen by someone they too love.

But evil exists because of more than just the abuse of free will. And THAT is the true heart of the question being asked about the existence of evil. The answer here is that God wants to be fully known. Just like a painter desires to both paint and eat food. God has parts of Himself that He simply is, that drive Him to various forms of expression. So, for an all knowing, all powerful being to create anything at all, or any aspect of that creation, is because He knew what would happen, and therefore had a reason for doing it.

So why create free will knowing it would produce pain and suffering among His creation? That is the thoughtfully seeking question.

As a thoughtful seeker you should seek to answer this question, and thereby come to fulfill some of your purpose in life...to know and understand who God truly is.
Q: You mean to tell me that a murderer can be 'saved' and be allowed into Heaven by simply asking for forgiveness on his deathbed? That somehow doesn't seem fair.

A: Grace and forgiveness are the opposite of fair. Fair is justice, fair is punishment, fair is an eye for an eye. Grace trumps all of that. Forgiveness replaces punishment. Thus, for forgiveness to function at all, someone must have done something wrong and then NOT have received all of the punishment due him or her. So, yes, deathbed repentance is certainly one way people could gain entrance to Heaven.

The Thoughtful Seeker's version of this question: what is the point of living for God now when I can just wait until my deathbed?

Heaven is the most selfish of reasons to seek and hope to find God. As a thoughtful seeker, consider the impact on your here and now of finding God today. How might it change your thoughts, your actions, your family, your workplace?

Take a seat at the table: truth is real and it can be known
