My Story of Thoughtfully Seeking

Some people think we just believe about God what we are taught by our parents.
While of course our parents greatly influence our worldview, you can choose for yourself what you will study, what you will learn, what you will seek. I was raised in a secular house with some faint appearance of Judaism. But I chose to study Judaism and eventually had my Bar Mitzvah. That did not prevent me from straying far from God for the next several years...deep into a lonely, hedonistic, hateful, deceit filled life that left me worse than empty...depleted and lost. When I finally broke free from that life, it was like being awoken from a coma. I didn't know who I was, who my friends where, who my family was, what I was doing with my life, or even how I got here. At the age of 18, I was virtually starting over. And start over I did. Eventually 'trying out Jesus' and later realizing He is who He says He is. For a seemingly atheistic, secular Jew, that was a lot to swallow. |
